Acheron "Ronnie" Faraday

Off the Grid

It’s not enough. I’m not enough. We are losing the fight and the only way to save our souls is to flee from the battleground.

Friends, I tried, but I faced only failure. Tried to remove the curses of yellow fabric from this office. Tried to convince my colleagues to read The Files so we could all understand the world together. Tried to avoid all of the yellow things Stacy kept pointing out to me. Tried to secure funding for the World Lens, which Victor is working on through his private efforts.

I tried, but it’s not enough. I waited, patiently, for an attempt to resolve things. For Avery and Manny, my dear colleagues in the Style Department, I stayed on. Avery’s film, Red Ink, was wonderful, and Manny gave a stellar performance as Sam McDonald. I especially appreciated the emphasis on RED ink de-emphasizing the psychological warfare of the pro-yellow agenda.

At the end of it all, I take my leave. With the way things are going, this world is not for long. Unless Victor builds the Lens in time, I fear our souls will be trapped in an endless spiral of contempt, bound to wander this mortal coil and ghosts wreathed in yellow taboo. I will be journeying to somewhere safer, more orderly, and distinctly not yellow. My best wishes to all of you. Though this office contained few believers, it is my hope that you will be spared from the Duke’s harshest punishments when judgement is upon us all.

A note left on Ronnie Faraday’s desk the morning after they published his film review of Red Ink for the Gazette. Ronnie hasn’t been seen since, but those close to them know that they’ve long prepared for a life off the grid.
